Flexibility is proof of overall well-being, and yoga is one of the best ways to improve upon it! By combining gentle stretches with mindful breathing, you can gradually improve your elasticity and feel more comfortable in your body.
Here are five yoga exercises we suggest you give a try in order to increase your elasticity:
1. Chair Upward Hands Stretch Pose
This pose stretches your entire upper body, improving shoulder and spine flexibility. Sit tall in your chair and raise your arms overhead, interlacing your fingers with palms facing up.
Hold the stretch for 10-15 seconds, breathing deeply to release tension.
2. Chair Pigeon Pose
Tight hips and a strained back can limit your flexibility, and this pose targets them directly. Cross one ankle over the opposite knee while sitting upright. Bright your hands together in prayer in front of you and gently lean forward.
Hold this stretch for 15-20 seconds before switching the legs.
3. Goddess Side Stretch Pose (Chair)
Sit with your legs wide, feet flat on the ground, and arms extended. Lean to one side, stretching your opposite arm overhead. Place the other arm on your knee and breathe.
Hold for 10-15 seconds, then switch sides.
4. Half Circle Pose
This pose opens the chest, shoulders, and spine while improving balance. Sit on a flat surface and get up on your knees before leaning sideways with one arm reaching over your head. The other hand rests on the floor underneath your shoulder for support. Finally, straighten the leg on the same side as the arm overhead.
Hold for 15 seconds on each side.
5. Tree Pose
Tree Pose improves balance while stretching the thighs and hips. Stand on one leg and place the sole of the other foot on your inner thigh or calf (avoid the knee). Bring your hands to a prayer position at your chest or overhead.
Hold for 15-20 seconds, then switch sides.
These yoga exercises are easy to perform and, when paired with mindful breathing, can help you gradually enhance your flexibility while promoting relaxation.
