Starting your yoga journey is exciting, but creating lasting habits can make all the difference in your progress. To help beginners improve their practice we asked our yogi experts what the secret tidbits that have an impact on their training are.

Here are their 6 expert tips:

1. Warm Up Properly

Always start with a warm-up to prepare your body for more intense poses. Simple stretches or breathing exercises help prevent injury and improve flexibility, allowing you to enter poses with ease.

2. Focus on Your Breath

Breathing is essential in yoga. Deep, mindful breathing supports your poses and keeps you grounded. Try breathing techniques like Ujjayi or Nadi Shodhana for focus and relaxation.

3. Stay Hydrated

Drink water before and after your practice to maintain energy and prevent dehydration, especially during dynamic sessions. The recommended amount per day is 3 liters.

4. Listen to Your Body

Pay attention to your body’s signals. If a pose feels uncomfortable or painful, modify it. Yoga is about respecting your limits and working at your own pace. Nobody should be getting injured while doing yoga.

5. Practice Mindfulness

Yoga is as much about the mind as it is about the body. Focus on being present in each moment and let go of distractions. Only the here-and-now matter when you’re in a pose. Enjoy your time. Do not rush.

6. Rest and Recover

Rest is vital for progress and healthy sleep is around 8 hours long. Use restorative poses or stretches and take time for meditation to let your body recover. If you have not rested enough, do not push yourself outside of your comfort zone.
